AIT & UCD Go Head to Head in Sigerson Cup and CUFL Soccer Semi-Final This Week

AIT V UCD Sigerson Cup 2014

AIT Sigerson squad open their championship campaign with a home tie against UCD tomorrow Tuesday 28th January at the AIT GAA grounds at 5pm . AIT reached the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup in 2013 losing out to UCC when the competition was hosted in AIT. They will now face a fancied UCD team in order to qualify for the Sigerson weekend which is being hosted by Queens University Belfast. The Dublin College are boosted by Westmeath star John Heslin along with All Ireland medal winners Jack Mc Caffrey and Paul Mannion who will be a handful for the AIT defence. AIT have shown mixed form in this years O’Byrne Cup suffering a heavy defeat to Kildare in the opening fixture followed by a victory over Carlow and a narrow one point defeat to Longford in their penultimate group game. AIT are hoping to have Westmeaths Ger Egan back from injury and with backup from Gary Connaughton, Kieran Martin, James Dolan and Roscommon star Cathal Shine AIT will be no pushover and we can expect this game to be a tough battle with very little to separate the sides.

AIT v UCD CUFL Semi Final
On the Soccer front we lock horns again with UCD in the Colleges and Universities Football League Semi Final at Peamount Utd on Wednesday at 2pm (weather permitting). The last tme the sides me at the semi final stage the Dublin University triumphed on penalties. Indeed the AIT lads were very unlucky at the semi final stage again last year losing out to DIT courtesy of a late extra time goal. AIT will travel with some confidence having accounted for IT Sligo on a 5-0 scoreline in the CFAI Cup Quarter Final last week.
