Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Management in Tourism & Sport

 It is widely reported that graduates with management expertise are essential to the ongoing growth and expansion of the tourism and hospitality industry. This add-on honours degree will prepare you for managerial and executive positions within the industry and you will develop transferable expertise which is recognised in the various industry sectors.

A key management skill is the ability to identify and solve problems. On this programme you will develop a conceptual, systematic approach to problem-solving in the tourism and hospitality industry. You will learn to draw independent conclusions based on a rigorous, analytical approach to data and to communicate effectively at different levels. You will also learn about various management strategies and about the management of change in an organisation.

Your communication skills will be enhanced, enabling you to communicate with self-confidence and clarity. You will be taught about IT, and in particular, about applications relevant to the tourism and hospitality industry. Learning about the structure and organisation of the tourism and hospitality industry – nationally and internationally – is also a component of this degree.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Graduates of ordinary degrees such as Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Business Management/Hotel and Catering Management/Front Office and Tourism Revenue Management or an equivalent Level 7 qualification are eligible to apply for this programme.

Modules

Strategic Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management, Hotel Operational Training Simulation, Tourism and Regional Development, Business Research.

Electives: Business French, Business Spanish, Event Management.

Progression

An honours degree (Level 8) is an effective basis for postgraduate training and research leading to Master’s and PhD (Level 9/10) qualifications. Taught postgraduate opportunities for graduates of this programme in hospitality management and tourism management are available in other third-level institutions. Graduates with a minimum grade of 2.2 are also eligible to apply for the one-year, full-time Master of Business programme at AIT.

Professional Recognition

As a graduate of this programme you are deemed eligible by the Teaching Council to apply for a Postgraduate Diploma in Education programme at Irish universities to be recognised to teach the subjects: Accounting and Business.
