AIT 5 IT Sligo 0. CFAI CUP Quarter Final
Our Senior Mens Soccer had a very comprehensive win today in the CFAI Umbro Cup Quarter Final beating IT Sligo 5-0. They set the tone early on and dominated possession in the early stages which paid off after Sean Brennan put them one up after just eight minutes. Stephen Rehilan doubled that lead after twenty minutes and Dan Cunningham finished well to see the lads take a comfortable three nil lead into half time. Sligo did their best to come out and attack in the second half but solid performances at the back from Broughal, Brooks, Cunningham and Forde kept them at bay. The goal of the game was yet come when Sweeney picked the ball up on the left, cut inside and skillfully beat three defenders before firing to the top corner. AIT were causing Sligo all sorts of problems attacking from midfield with Relihan, Sweeney, Lyons and Kelly and all the pressure paid off when Brenan wrapped things up late on with his second of the game.
The semi final of this CFAI Cup will see us matched up against the winners of IT Tallaght and Pearse College in three weeks time. Next week we play in the Colleges and Universities Football League Semi Final against UCD.
